In 2032 B.S. (197) His Majesty Government, Ministry of Education and Sports, acquired 20.75 hectares (415 ropani) of land immediately across the Pokhara Airport at ward No 10 of Pokhara Metropolis for The National Sports Council, Nepal, for the development of sports complex. Within the premises of Pokhara Stadium, sports fields of international level of all the major sports, such as football, hockey, cricket, multipurpose covered halls for badminton, handball, basketball, and table tennis can be accommodated. Similarly, there are ample space left for tennis court, swimming pools, a range for archery and similar other sports. At present, there is one covered hall, a basketball court, a volleyball court and half-completed football stadium. The National Sports Council of Nepal has prepared a Master Plan for the development of sports infrastructure in future allocating sectors of lands for different sports. Pokhara Stadium, in all respects has the entire prerequisite infrastructure capable of holding games of international level. In top of that with favourable climatic conditions and the beautiful natural surroundings, Pokhara can be a suitable neutral venue for most of the international games, which can not be staged in respective countries and have to be cancelled because of certain unavoidable circumstances. 

In spite of having such potentialities, Pokhara Stadium, at present, stand out as an abandoned assets of Pokhara City, without any caretaker. And, the most concerning aspect of the Pokhara Stadium is the way it has been mistreated by the concerning authorities giving little attention for its preservation and development. The complex has been subject to unauthorized encroachment. Pokhara has been experiencing in the last thirty years a very high growth of population. The annual growth rate has always remained higher than 5.0 per cent with highest 14.30 per cent during the period of 1961-’71. The high density of population has shrunk the land in the city area and the tendency of usurping the public land by the land mafia in unison with the corrupt administration is on the rise. The sports complex has turned out becoming safe hideouts for anti-social elements, and a public thoroughfare endangering its existence in near future. If this trend continues for another few years, the existence of Pokhara Stadium is really threatened and by that time it would be too late and complicated to get it back to its original shape. 

The sports lovers of Pokhara, considering the gravity of the situation have realized to make the general public and the concerning authorities aware of the perceptiveness of the danger looming over the horizon. In the process, the team met with people of different sectors inviting their involvement to find a way out for the protection and preservation of the precious assets of their city for the prosperity of the sports loving future generation. 
The civic society of Pokhara positively responded and have made a pledge to protect the stadium giving first priority for the construction of a boundary wall in the eastern and southern sides of the stadium. The general gathering of the people of Pokhara formed a nine members ‘Pokhara Stadium Compound Wall Construction Committee’ (PSCWCC) on -------------- giving mandate to this executive committee to go ahead with the proposed plan approved by the general committee. The main body of the ‘Pokhara Stadium Compound Wall Construction Committee’ comprises 401 members with 33 advisors.

The total estimated cost for the construction of the boundary wall is Rs. 7,963,454/23 of which The National Sports Council, Nepal, has provided Rs. 500,000/ and the Nepal Ex-sportsman Forum has contributed Rs. 200,00/ respectively. The rest of the amount has to be raised through the collective effort of the entire civic society of Pokhara City and its well- wishers living in different parts of the country and abroad. In this respect some agencies and organizations operating in this region have voluntarily made their commitment in public to assist this project. ‘PSCWCC’, acknowledging and extending heartily thanks to these agencies and organizations for their generous help makes a humble appeal to all the organizations and general public to lend a helping hand from their level best for the appropriate utilization of this precious assets to promote sports culture in this region. We believe that developing sports culture in this region will definitely make a significant contribution in the economy of the country. Let us unite together in making a bright future for the sports activities presenting a nice token of love to our future generation.

४१५ रोपनी ९२०.७५ हेक्टर० विशाल खेलकूद क्षेत्रफल भएको सुविधायुक्त मैदान पोखरा रंगशालामा पाउनु पोखरावासीका लागि गौरबको विषय हो । भौगोलिक एवं सामाजिक दृष्टिकोणले यस प्रकारको सुविधायुक्त खेलकूदको पर्ूवाधार नेपालका अन्य कुनै पनि शहरलाई प्राप्त छैन । त्यसैले यस रंगशाला मार्फ विविध खेलकूदका संभावनालाई अर्न्तर्राष्ट्रियकरण गरि नेपालको खेलकूद विकासमा नयाँ आयाम थप्न सकिन्छ । पोखरा रंगशालामा अर्न्तर्राष्ट्रिय स्तरका खेलकूद गतिविधि संचालन गर्न सक्ने क्षमता छ । अर्न्तर्राष्ट्रिय स्तरका प्रमुख खेलहरुमध्ये भलिवल, फुटवल, हक्की, क्रिकेट, व्याडमिन्टन, एथलेटिक्स, जिम्नास्टिक, हृयाण्डबल, वास्केटवल, टेवलटेनिस, टेनिस, स्वीमिंग, आर्चरी, मार्शल आर्टस, बक्सिङ्ग जस्ता खेलहरु संचालन गर्न सकिने भएतापनि हाल ती खेलकूदका गतिविधिहरु ज्यादै न्यून रुपमा मात्र संचालन भैरहेका छन् । खेलकूद विकासका सम्भावनाहरुलाई दृष्टिगत गरी राष्ट्रिय खेलकूद परिषद्ले पोखरा रंगशालाको भौतिक निर्माणका लागि वृहत गुरुयोजना तयार पारी विविध खेलकूदका लागि निश्चित स्थानहरुको निर्धारण गरिसकेको छ । यो योजना सम्पन्न भएमा अर्न्तर्राष्ट्रिय स्तरका प्रतियोगिताहरु आयोजना गर्न यो रंगशाला छिमेकी राष्ट्रहरुको निमित्त तटस्थ स्थान हुनसक्छ भन्ने कुरामा दुइमत छैन । किनकि अनुपम प्राकृतिक छटाले भरिपर्ुण्ा पोखराको सुन्दरता एव्ंा अनुकुल हावापानीका कारण साथै विविध अर्न्तर्राष्ट्रिय राजनितीका कारणले एक अर्को देशमा खेल्न नजाने हाम्रा छिमेकी मुलुकहरुका समस्या समाधान गर्ने विकल्पको रुपमा नेपाल मात्र एक स्वीकार्य राष्ट्र हुनसक्दछ ।

खेलकूदको लागि उत्कृष्ठ स्थल एवं सम्भावना भएतापनि संरक्षणको अभावमा पोखरा रंगशाला उजाड र उराठ भएको छ । रंगशालामा घेरा पर्खाल नभएका कारण सिमाना अतिक्रमण हुनका साथै र्सार्वजनिक स्थलका रुपमा प्रयोग भई खेलकूदको मान मर्यादामा समेत प्रश्न उठ्ने सम्भावना देखिएको छ । खेलकूदसंग असम्वन्धित तथा असामाजिक गतिविधिको रोकथामका साथै खेलकूद गतिविधिलाई निरन्तरता दिन समयमै हामीले केही सोचेनौं र गरेनौं भने पछि यसलाई यथास्थानमा ल्याउन झन जटिल हुनेछ र एकदिन यसको अस्तित्व नै मेटिएर जान सक्दछ । तर्सथ हाम्रो शहरको सम्पत्तिको संरक्षण र सर्म्वर्धन गरि भावी सन्ततीलाई सु-मार्गको प्रेरणा दिने वातावरण वनाउनु हाम्रो सामाजिक दायित्व र कर्तब्य पनि हो ।

यसै पर्रि्रेक्षमा पोखरा रंगशालाको अवस्था प्रति सम्बद्ध पक्षको ध्यानाकर्षा गर्राई सामाजिक जागृति ल्याउने अभ्रि्रायले खेलकूदसंग सम्वन्धित खेलप्रेमीहरु एकपटक फेरी एकताबद्ध भएका छन् । यस प्रकारको बृहत कार्यक्रमलाई सफलतापर्ूवक सम्पन्न गराउन कुनै एक पक्षको प्रयासले मात्र सम्भव नहुने भएकोले पोखराको हरेक गतिविधिसंग सरोकार राख्ने पोखरावासी सामाजिक संघ । संस्था, राजनैतिक व्यक्तित्व, शैक्षिक प्रतिष्ठान, उद्योग व्यवसायी, चिकित्साकर्मी, सुरक्षाकर्मी एवं प्रशासनिक इकाई तथा पोखराको विकासमा सरोकार राख्ने विविध तह र तप्काका प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्ति र समुहहरुको सामुहिक संलग्नता गर्राई मिति २०६१ असोज २८ गते पोखरा रंगशालामा एक वृहत भेलाको आयोजना गरियो । उक्त भेलाले विविध क्षेत्रसंग सम्वन्धित महानुभावहरुको संलग्नतामा ४०१ सदस्यीय मूल समति - जस अर्न्तर्गत ३३ सदस्यीय सल्लाहकार, ९ सदस्यीय कार्य समिति ः रहने गरि पोखरा रंगशाला कम्पाउण्ड वाल निर्माण समितिू गठन गरिएको व्यहोरा सहर्षजानाकारी गराउन चाहन्छौं ।

पोखरा रंगशालाको समुचित संरक्षणको लागि तत्काल कम्पाउण्ड वाल निर्माण एक मात्र प्रमुख विकल्प रहेको तथ्यलाई मध्य नजर राख्दै कार्य थालनी गर्ने क्रममा हाल नापी विभाग कास्कीको सहयोगमा यसको चार किल्ला निर्धारण गरि नाप जाँच कार्य सम्पन्न भई सकेको छ भने पर्खाल निर्माणको लागि लाग्ने अनुमानित वजेट समेत अधिकारीक व्यक्तिबाट प्राप्त भई सकेको छ । जसको लागि रु. ७९,६३,४५४।२३ लाग्नेछ जस मध्ये राष्ट्रिय खेलकूद परिषद्बाट रु. ५,००,०००।- -पाँच लाख), नेपाल भूतपर्ूव खेलाडी मञ्चबाट रु. २,००,०००।- -दर्ुइ लाख) प्राप्त भएको छ भने अन्य रकम हामीले नागरिक समाजको अगुवाईमा जुटाउनु परेको छ । विभिन्न संगठित संस्था, स्वयंसेवी संस्था तथा विभिन्न व्यक्तित्वहरुबाट निर्माणमा सहयोगको वचनवद्धता हामीलाई प्राप्त भएको हुनाले हामी अझ उत्साहित भएका छौं । खेलकूद संस्कृतिको विकासको माध्यमबाट पोखरालाई खेलकूद पर्यटन स्थलको रुपमा विकास गर्न सके राष्ट्रको अर्थतन्त्रमा समेत अनुकुल प्रभाव पर्नेमा हामी विश्वस्त छौं ।

विविध खेलकूद विकासका सम्भावना वोकेको पोखरा रंगशाला इतिहासले हामीलाई देखाएको यो वृहत सम्पत्ति भावी सन्ततिको नासो हो । आफ्नो सन्ततिलाई वेवास्ता गरेको अनुभुती भएमा जसरी आत्मा तड्पिन्छ त्यसैगरी आज हामी समस्त पोखरेली खेलप्रेमीहरु रंगशालाको वेवास्ता प्रति दुःखित छौं । अतः हामी सवै मिलि सुन्दर खेलकूदको भविष्य निर्माण गरी भावी सन्ततिलाई उपहार दिन एकतावद्ध भई हातेमालो गरौं । संयुक्ततामा ठूलो शtmिछ जुन शक्तिको हामी अपेक्षा गर्दछौं ।
